Hewlett-Packard has announced their new Google Android powered Compaq Airlife 100 Smartbook. Like a few devices these days, this one blurs the lines a bit with its netbook form factor and integrated 3G connectivity.
The new HP smartbook comes with a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon QSD8250 chipset, a large keyboard (92% of full size), 16GB solid state drive, SD card slot, VGA webcam, and WiFi connectivity.
The unit also comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen display that includes a custom HP user interface that offers consumers not only a touch but a “tabbed”Internet browsing experience. Additionally, the UI offers page zooming and a touch sensitive media suite and shortcut menu.
To round out the features, HP has also included integrated GPS and a long lasting battery that has been rated to 12 hours of active use and 10 days of standby time.
Regarding the new HP product, Charl Synman, an HP VP, states “The browser has become the desktop for many people, and the new Compaq AirLife is the next evolution of a mobile computer that is streamlined specifically for the web.”
For now, a European release of the Compaq Airlife 100 has been scheduled for Spring 2010 and as this launch is in partnership with Telefonica, a subsidized deal will be offered. Currently, there are no indications for a US launch.
Note: this product is yet to be launched in India
